Designed for installation beside your desk, the Fellowes Powershred 59Cb Cross-Cut Shredder has a shorter width than its depth so that it will not jut out excessively. Its casing is made of shiny black plastic with silver highlights on its front and top corners, giving it an attractive appearance.
The paper entry slot of the shredder is perpendicular to its front. It accepts up to nine sheets of paper and shreds them in one go. Equipped with sturdy solid steel cutters that are activated by a powerful motor, the sheets are reduced to small pieces with measurements of 5/32 x 2, both in inches. These, of course, are quite unreadable rendering your confidential papers safe from would-be identity thieves.
With this shred size, the Powershred 59Cb is classified as a DIN Security Level 3 machine, which is ideal for credit applications, college papers, as well as insurance company materials and communications. One piece of letter size document or any 8.5" x 11" paper is typically shredded to 399 pieces of confetti.
The steel cutters are not limited to shredding papers. Indeed, they are strong enough to cut through credit cards and staple wires that are often left on papers for shredding.
The shredder features an electronic auto start/stop function. This means that it will automatically start shredding when sheets of paper are inserted in the entry slot. It will stop, also automatically, when shredding is completed.
Shredding speed is rated at 9 feet per minute, while run time is at 5 minutes. Multiplying the maximum number of sheets that can be shred in one pass with the shredding speed, and multiplying their product with run time result in a throughput rating of 405 sheets.
Paper jam is prevented with the shredder's Jam Blocker Technology, while a patented Safety Lock keeps the cutters from accidentally running. A four-gallon bin gathers shredded material. It can be pulled out for emptying.
