Equipped with a medium-duty motor powering durable steel blades, the Comet CM-M10CD Micro Cut Paper Shredder can easily cut through 10 sheets of paper as well as DVDs or CDs and credit cards. Although powerful, the motor generates a noise level of only 55 decibels, a level roughly equivalent to that of a normal conversation between two people.
The pieces of paper are shredded into confetti sized 2 mm x 15 mm thus rendering your papers completely unreadable. With this size, the machine is classified as a Level 4 security shredder according to the standards of the DIN or German Institute for Standardization. This means it is safe to use for commercially sensitive documents. Papers are inserted into a 9-inch slot, thus providing plenty of room for regular letter and legal size documents.
DVDs, CDs, and credit cards, on the other hand, are inserted into another slot that is shorter than that for the papers. Unlike the papers, these are cut into thin strips.
Featuring an on/off switch on its side and forward and reverse buttons at its top front, the machine goes into standby mode when powered up. It automatically starts running when it detects sheets of paper or a DVD being inserted into its slots. If it senses that the sheet of paper is too thick, it goes into auto reverse to prevent paper jam.
The machine can shred your papers at a rate of 7 feet per minute, and it can continually run for 8 minutes. However, in order to prevent overheating, it needs to take a break for about 45 minutes. A red light on the control panel comes alive to warn you of overheating.
Shredded materials are gathered in a 4.5-gallon waste bin. It is a pull-out type so you do not need to lift the shredder head when emptying. Although there is no indicator lamp signifying that it is full, the bin has a large window on its front clearly showing its contents.
The Comet CM-M10CD is colored black with silver highlights. It stands on four casters for ease of movement, and it rises approximately 23 inches high, with a width of 14 and depth of 11. It weighs about 30 lbs.
