Plenty of paper shredders generate loud noise while they tear up your confidential documents. While they do get the job done, the noise can be irritating not only to you but, if you are in the office, also to the people in the next cubicles as well. This is not so with the Comet CM-C06CD Cross Cut Paper Shredder. Even when shredding at its maximum capacity, it is as quiet as a stream, even less loud than a normal conversation between two individuals. It terms of decibels, the level is 55.
The Comet CM-C06CD is a high quality shredder designed for home or small office use. It shreds up to six sheets of paper in a single pass, cutting them into 5/32" x 25/32" confetti, thus rendering them unreadable. This qualifies the machine to be classified as a Security Level 3 shredder by the German Institute of Standardization or DIN. (The initial stands for the institute's German name).
With the machine's powerful motor and durable steel blades, the pieces of paper are cross cut at a rate of 8.2 feet per minute. This translates to roughly 50 sheets of letter size papers per minute, shredding at the maximum of 6 sheets in one go.
You will need to rest the machine after continually running it for five minutes though, keeping it still for about 15 minutes to allow it to cool down, and prevent overheating and damaging its internal components.
The top of the shredder has two entry slots. One is the 8.66-inch paper slot and the other is a narrower opening intended for CDs, DVDs, and credit cards. The latter, however, does not cross cut the thicker and sturdier materials. Instead, it slices them into strips.
The shredder head is perched on a large wastebasket that has a capacity of 4.5 gallons. To empty it, you will need to lift the head, but this is easy because the latter is fitted with a lift-up handle specifically included for this purpose.
